According to two officials, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is seeking to hire 356 air traffic control officers (ATCOs) out of 519 vacant positions by August-September. This move comes in response to the Indian government’s efforts to alleviate the shortage of ATCOs due to the significant growth of the aviation industry in the country, which has resulted in record traffic levels.
The government aims to fill 80% of the vacancies within the next six months.
As of January 31st, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had a sanctioned strength of 4,211 air traffic controllers (ATCOs), with 3,692 currently employed, leaving 519 vacancies. However, only 356 of these vacant positions will be filled this year.

The eligibility criteria for AAI ATCOs
The eligibility criteria for AAI ATCOs state that candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a recognized university in the relevant field. Additionally, candidates must be under the age of 27 as of July 14th, 2023, to be considered for the position.
